Rome is a
tapestry that has been created
over centuries of religious,
architectural and artistic
movements, all of which have
made their mark here. Its not
hard to see its foundation has
been built from ancient times.
In fact, youll be impressed at
Romes ability to absorb the
various eras and cultures that
have found their way here. And
once you arrive, youll be taken
to fascinating sites and places
that transport you throughout
history.
The Vatican City
is surrounded by Rome, is the
worlds smallest independent
sovereign state and is led by
the Pope. The city is filled
with museums, as well as the
remarkable St. Peters Basilica
and Sistine Chapel. One of the
Vatican museums located here is
the Biblioteca Apostolica
Vaticana, which holds part of
the Vatican library. St. Thomas
Aquinas and Michelangelo wrote
some of the manuscripts that are
displayed. Saint Peter's
Basilica is a stunning building
that began in 1506 and was
completed in 1615 with
Michelangelo as one of its chief
architects. Youll be amazed at
the grandeur and see why so many
come to this beautiful church.
Built from 1475 to 1489, the
Sistine Chapel was named for
Pope Sixtus IV. It houses an
astonishing collection of
Renaissance paintings well worth
seeing. The Chapel itself is a
masterpiece with its ceiling
painted by Michelangelo, a
process that took four years.
Now thats dedication.
The Catacombs
are underground cemeteries and
there are 67 known catacombs
throughout Rome. As eerie as it
might be to go into one of them,
theres a fascinating history in
each one. Because the Romans
were afraid of the dead, they
didnt disturb the Christian
Catacombs and so youll be able
to see early Christian art thats
been left undisturbed for
centuries..
There are so
many more amazing sites to see
here. Theres the Colosseum, the
Roman Forum, the Borghese
Gallery, and Trevi Fountain just
to name a few. But it wouldnt be
fair to give you the impression
that Rome is just a city filled
with fascinating monuments and
museums. Although thats reason
enough to come, Rome is also a
great place to do some shopping.
The Spanish Square and
surrounding areas are the place
to be for high-end fashion as
well as antique shopping and art
galleries. And for those who
prefer not put a down payment on
a piece of clothing make your
way to the Via del Corso and Via
Tritone. Theres also a huge flea
market each Sunday at the Porta
Portese. When the sun goes down,
the nightlife begins to come
alive. Choose from a huge array
of great choices to spend a
romantic evening in Rome. There
are open-air concerts, opera
performances, ballet, jazz
concerts and much more.
Rome is a great adventure and
as you walk along the streets,
seeing all the fantastic sites
youll create many new memories.
Youll enjoy the delicious meals,
accompanied by the perfect glass
of wine. Rome is rich in history
and culture. Its your
responsibility to go through its
many layers and see everything
that makes Rome a unique and
exciting city to explor.
